How to enable CloudFlare CDN for subdomains through cPanel?

CloudFlare is a content delivery network ( CDN ), which optimizes the performance (speed and security) of your site. You would naturally want to have it enabled on all of your sites, even those hosted on subdomains. Enabling the CDN service for your subdomains can be achieved quickly and easily through the CloudFlare integration in our custom cPanel. The only requirement is that you have CloudFlare enabled through cPanel for the main domain (e.g. yourdomain.com, when the subdomain is sub.yourdomain.com).

*Note: If you have CloudFlare enabled separately through their website, you should go to your account with them and add your subdomain settings there.

  • First you need to log into your cPanel with UniqueVPS and find the Zone Editor in the Domains section.

  • If you have more than one domain added to your cPanel click on the Manage button next to the main domain of the subdomain you want to enable CloudFlare for.

  • Once the DNS zone is loaded in the Zone File Records section find the records for the subdomain in question – sub.yourdomain.com – you should see one entry for an A type record and, if you have SPF enabled, one for a TXT type record. If you see a TXT type record, delete it by clicking Delete next to it and then click on Edit next to the A type record.

  • You should then change the A record to CNAME record from the Type drop-down menu, enter the main domain name yourdomain.com in the CNAME field, and press Save Record.

  • After that you should click the CloudFlare icon in the Software/Services section of your cPanel with us.

  • Click on the Edit button next to the main domain yourdomain.com and you will see the subdomain sub.yourdomain.com with a gray cloud beside it.

  • Click on the gray cloud to start the process and after a few seconds the cloud will change to orange and your subdomain will successfully be configured with CloudFlare CDN.
